It’s not hard to forget your motivation for getting fit when obstacles arise. Although it started as a fun adventure, it can quickly become tedious and difficult to see the progress you have made. You may notice others who are losing weight at a quicker pace and showing more progression. Naturally, you’ll question why they are getting those results, and you aren’t. How do they lose weight and keep it off?
Identifying your goal is the first step in a successful weight loss program. Do you just want to shave off those few extra pounds you gained over the holidays, or do you want to fit into clothing that is a size or two smaller than what you currently wear? Figure out exactly why you want to shed the pounds. Is it because you want more energy, or because you have a specific goal in mind, like dropping a few dress sizes?
Recording your weight each week is a great way to stay on top of your progress. Analyzing the results of your plan helps you make the necessary changes to succeed, so write down what you drink and eat – even snacks and soda pop. By keeping track of everything you are consuming, you have more determination to select healthier options.
Don’t allow yourself to be hungry all the time. This will make you more likely to binge on unhealthy foods. Don’t wait until you are very hungry to eat, because you will be more likely to make unhealthy choices. Not planning your meals ahead of time is a surefire way to get caught in the junk food trap. Always have them handy when you are on the go. Make it a point to bring your lunch from home. Doing this will help you save money, in addition to protecting that waistline.
A healthy diet and exercise plan are two integral parts of any weight loss strategy. It is not necessary to exercise 7 days a week, but you should do so at least 3 or 4. Make exercise fun if you are bored with it. If you are a fan of dancing, taking a class is a great way to workout while still having fun.
You won’t eat junk food if there isn’t any around. Remove the temptation by either putting it away and out of sight, or just not buying it in the first place. Once you fill your life with healthy food, you will find yourself eating it on a daily basis.
If you have a strong support system, or someone to work out with you, it can increase the likelihood that you will succeed in your goal. The encouragement you receive from others can keep you motivated when you don’t think you go any further and just want to quit. Make sure to use your support network when necessary. Your friends and family share the desire to see you succeed, so if you hit a bump in the road, ask one of them for the advice, assistance or encouragement you need to overcome the obstacle and get back on the road to achieving your goal.
